Transportation - Home Base to Hong Kong
Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Obituary / Life Story
Arthur McCorrister Dies
A former member of the Winnipeg Grenadiers and prisoner of war in Hong Kong, Arthur (Spike) McCorrister died suddenly at the family home on Monday night.
Born in Portage la Prairie, Mr. McCorrister had resided here all his life. He served with the Winnipeg regiment from 1939 until the end of the war in 1945. Captured after the fall of Hong Kong, Mr. McCorrister remained in the prison camp until the liberation in 1945.
In apparent good health, his death came as a shock to a wide circle of friends in the city and district.
Besides his widow, the former Doris Sharp, he is survived by two daughters and two sons: Mrs. Ralph (Lorraine) James of Windsor, Ontario and Mrs. (June) Wood, now in France and Calvin and Mervyn.
Four brothers also survive. They are Alfred of Portage, Calvin of Portage, who also was a prisoner in Hong Kong; Jack at Hamilton, Ontario and Harold serving with the RCAF in Penhold, Alberta.
Mr. McCorrister was engaged in the construction trade in Portage. He was a member of St. Mary's Anglican church. Funeral arrangements are pending. The body rests at the McMaster funeral home.

Enlisting in Sept. 1939, Pte. McCorrister served with the Grenadiers in the West Indies and in Hong Kong. His wife and family live in Portage la Prairie, and his mother is Mrs. C. McCorrister, also of Portage.
