Poetry by Elmer McKnight

SONG BY ELMER MCKNIGHT JAPAN '43
Taken from Alexander Henderson's POW diary

I'M DREAMING OF HOME,
I'M WAITING FOR TIME TO ROLL BY
IF MY DREAMS COME TRUE
WHY SHOULDN'T I KEEP DREAMING OF HOME.
WHEN I'M ALL ALONE
I KEEP DREAMING OF LOVED ONES SO DEAR
AND THEIR VOICES I'M LONGING TO HEAR
FOR I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN
IT'S THE ONLY PLACE YOU'LL FIND
THAT KIND OF LOVE, AND HAPPINESS.
THERE'S MOTHER THEIR (sic) WITH SILVER HAIR
AND DAD IN HIS OLD EASY CHAIR.
WHERE EVER I ROAM
THAT'S THE PICTURE THAT COMES BACK TO ME
IT'S A HAUNTINGLY SWEET MEMORY
WHEN I'M DREAMING OF HOME.
